"Parang joke na lang sa Pilipinas ang election. Kung sino-sino na lang ang gustong tumakbo."
And we wonder why?
It is evident that one of the flaws is the qualifications of the President and Vice President. According to Article VII, Section 2 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution, the qualifications for President and Vice-President are as follow:
- natural born citizen of the Philippines
- able to read and write
- registered voter
- at least 40 years of age on the day of the election
- resident of the Philippines for at least 10 years preceding the election
As what have been taught, these are all the qualifications to become a Head of State of the Philippines. Clearly, there is no definite indication of their educational background, professional background, experience in public service, moral achievements, etc.
And yet we still wonder why.
Those who filed presidential candidacy, let them be. By rights, they are qualified. They have their own beliefs and principles, respect it. It's not really a matter of who wants to run, but who gets the vote. If you think they aren't fitting to the role, then don't vote for them. No need to malign & ridicule the person's audacity to stand for himself.
To tell you honestly, I admire people like them. Only few of us have the courage to stand up to our beliefs and principles ready to face judgement (i.e. offensive jokes and rants) and discouragement. I believe only two types of people could do that; those who are stupid and dumb, and those who are confident and credible. Standing up to your principles with boldness is undoubtedly one of the strong points that a leader must possess.
Yes, it may sound a bit funny. It may seem comedic and laughable. But can you do what they did? Do you have the determination to stand up for what you believe in like they did? You see, these people want to bring change to our country. At least that's what I think. And what's so wrong about it?
